  • Remote Learning

‘Remote education is a broad term encompassing any learning that happens outside the classroom, with the teacher not present in the same location as the pupils.’ ‘Digital remote education is often known as online learning. This is remote learning delivered through digital technologies.’

    OFSTED – January 2021

At the Forest Edge Learning Federation, the following information applies to the closure of a class or during a whole school closure.

Remote Curriculum: What will be taught to pupils and how?

During the first two days of a school closure, children's online learning will look different as teachers work to adapt their learning journeys for an online delivery method.

    During the first two days:

Children should complete learning on platforms such as Lexia Core 5, Times Table Rockstars, Mathletics and Spelling Shed. They will also be able to access SORA to listen to audiobooks online.

Children are used to using these platforms within school, and will be able to use their logins at home.

    After the first two days:

Learning will be set via Google Classroom (Years 1-6) or Seesaw (Year R) for children to complete. The children will be able to login to the classroom from the Google homepage, using their 'forestedge.org.uk' email address - the same way they access the chromebooks in school.

Teachers will give lesson inputs for English, Maths and Project: these may be in the form of a live lesson, or a pre-recorded video. Children will then be set a task to complete, which can be done virtually and submitted back to the teacher for marking and feedback.

It is expected that all children complete these tasks.

Remote Learning: Access to computers at home

If your family does not have an appropriate device at home to enable children to complete home-learning, the school can support you with this. Please contact the school office for more information.

    Remote Learning: Pastoral Check-ins

For some children, particularly those who may struggle with anxiety or other SEND needs, learning at home may be particularly challenging. During long periods of closure, our school ELSAs will make contact with families and arrange video calls to support those children who need it most.
